MICHAEL
CLIMBS TO THIRD IN STANDINGS
Michael
has moved into third in the standings of the British
F3 Championship after the Ibstock Brick backed driver
finished third and seventh respectively in rounds 5
& 6 of the F1 feeder series at Silverstone over the
weekend.
The
22-year-old put in a storming performance in the first
of Sunday's two 15 lap encounters to claim his third
consecutive podium finish despite starting from ninth
on the grid. The Donington Park double winner shot to
fourth on the opening lap to get right behind third
placed Adam Carroll from Northern Ireland. This shortly
became a fight for second when on lap 6 Finnish driver
Heikki Kovalainen was sidelined by a gearbox fault.
However as Michael challenged Carroll he was caught
by Robbie Kerr which forced him to defend from the Englishman
and finish the race in third.
Having
had a difficult time in qualifying, Michael was delighted
with the result which saw him claim points for second
as Carroll is not registered for the Championship.
Race
2, Round 6 of the series, saw Michael again make another
good start this time from tenth on the grid and by lap
4 he had his Clonakilty Black Pudding backed Honda/Dallara
up to fourth. The latter half of the race proved difficult
however and he finished seventh to collect four more
valuable points and move into joint third with French
driver Bruce Jouanny.
Michael
is in action again this weekend (May 11/12) when the
championship moves to Scotland and the tight Knockhill
circuit where he will be aiming to close the gap on
new championship leader Kerr.
