MICHAEL
CLAIMS PODIUM FINISH IN OPENING RACE
Michael
got his 2003 British F3 Championship campaign off to
a fine start at Donington Park over the weekend when
he finished second in the opening round.
Starting
from 6th on the grid, the Irishman made one of his now
famous starts and climbed to third on the opening lap.
A tyre infrigement on race winner Jamie Green's car
later saw the Promatecme driver promoted to second in
the race results. A
fine result for the Ibstock Brick driver who only joined
Chris Weller's outfit a week before the season opener.
Round
2 of the championship proved more difficult for Michael
as an off in qualifying meant he would line up 20th
on the grid. Having worked his way up to 13th, an attempt
at taking 12th place saw Michael spin and drop back
down the order. He recovered to eventually finish 17th.
Now
fifth in the championship standings, a better position
than he was in this time last year when he failed to
score any points in the opening two races, Michael has
shown he has the potential to repeat his winning ways
of 2002.
Michael's
next race is in two weeks time (20th April) at Snetterton
where he will be looking for a repeat of his performance
in the opening race.
