MICHAEL
SET FOR F3000 DEBUT AT BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Michael
will make his Formula 3000 race debut at next weekend's
(19/20 July) British Grand Prix at Silverstone after
signing a one race deal with race winning FIA International
F3000 outfit Team Astromega. Racing in the seventh round
of the championship, the 23-year-old will become only
the second ever driver from the Republic of Ireland
to compete in the Formula 1 feeder category.
The
British F3 Championship race winner joins the Belgian
squad following a successful test at Spa-Francorchamps
last month and the Ibstock Brick backed driver from
Clonakilty is looking forward to racing at Silverstone
where he will have plenty of Irish support.
'Silverstone
is a great place for me to make my F3000 debut. Its
a circuit I know well and I always get plenty of support
from the large Irish crowd who come over for the Grand
Prix. It is the nearest thing to racing at home', said
the top Irish International racer.
Commenting
on his deal with Team Astromega he said, 'Astromega
are a very good outfit and we gelled well together when
I tested at Spa. I am hopeful that we can achieve a
good result and make a few impressions over the weekend.'
Widely
recognised as the world's premier junior series, qualifying
for the Silverstone F3000 race takes place on Friday
evening with the 30-lap race scheduled for Saturday
directly after final Grand Prix qualifying.
