MICHAEL FINISHES SOLID 12TH ON F3000 DEBUT

Michael made a solid F3000 debut at Silverstone today (Saturday) when he finished 12th in the seventh round of the FIA International Formula 3000 Championship.

Driving for Belgian squad Team Astromega, the Clonakilty driver found himself on the seventh row of the grid for the British Grand Prix support race after he had his fastest time disallowed for receiving outside assistance during Friday's damp qualifying session.

A solid race by the Ibstock Brick backed Irishman, Michael enjoyed two battles on his way to 12th. Only the second ever driver from the Republic of Ireland to race in F3000, his result makes him the most successful in the F1 feeder series.

The race was won by Swede Bjorn Wirdheim.
