MICHAEL
JOINS PROMATECME FOR F3 OPENER
International
racing driver Michael Keohane from Clonakilty, Co. Cork,
will race with the Promatecme F3 team for the opening
meeting of the 2003 British F3 Championship. The Irish
charger has been released from his Sweeney Racing contract
for the Donington Park event next weekend (April 5/6)
in order to give him the best chance of a strong points
score in the opening pair of races.
Going
into his second season in the Championship class, Keohane
is determined to figure prominently in the battle for
the title. In a joint decision by the Sweeney Racing
team and Keohane, the 22-year-old has been released
from his contract for the first pair of races, allowing
Sweeney Racing and Lola personnel to concentrate on
increasing the competitiveness of the new Lola-Dome
F106 chassis.
"I
see this as a positive move for everyone concerned,"
says Keohane. "It enables me to get points on the board
from day one and allows the joint team resource to get
fully behind one car and move forward more rapidly."
John
Sweeney, owner of the Irish team, explained: "We have
agreed to release Michael from his contract so that
we can all move forward as rapidly as possible. From
Michael’s point of view, it is vital that he nets a
good haul of points at the first race, particularly
as this is his second season in the main Championship
Class. We still have work to do with the Lola-Dome,
which we have all acknowledged, and by taking this decision
we can focus fully on Adam’s car and exploiting every
inch of the F106’s potential at Donington. Both Lola
and ourselves are confident that we will very quickly
get the car to a stage where Michael will rejoin the
team – and I hope that will be after Donington."
The
Promatecme team, race winners in the 2002 Championship,
is now working flat out to provide Keohane with a car
that will give him the very best chance of strong results
at Donington Park where last year he took back to back
wins driving for Carlin Motorsport.
